What was the highlight of RIU Sri Lanka

A very nice holiday stay

The hotel is located right next to the beach. The food is quite good, local breakfast + standard things eggs, bacon, vegetables, bread. Local drinks, quite good. The service is very nice and helpful. Entertainment and water sports are also good and well run.

There are probably no disadvantages.

What was the highlight of RIU Sri Lanka

Excellent hotel which is great value for money

The main thing about this hotel is the excellent service, which was amongst the best we have experienced in our travels. All the staff were excellent from Rohan and Sajid in the restaurants (to name a few) to the reception staff. The facility was clean and well maintained, considering the rains they had been having. We were there the second week in October but only had two days of torrential rain. Food choices were excellent at the buffet and the grill restaurant (Saute) the Asian and Italian were reasonable but not excellent and were not open every day. The entertainment team were also excellent

The only downside was: 1. though the beaches are public the one in front of the hotel should have the litter picked up more frequently & 2. It is appalling that the shop on site was selling shells. The reefs are suffering as it is and from the condition of the shells it was clear they were harvested live. The RIU hotel chain should play a bigger role in conservation of the reefs.

Beautiful hotel, amazing food

A beautiful hotel, large, comfortable and with the most delicious food! The food was so amazing that I will mention it again!!!!! Pools were clean and so tidy. More sun beds than people wanting to use them. Great hotel, a jewel in the crownnfor RIU

When we first arrived the hotel was fully booked and ow boy was it busy, so busy that it was a tad overwhelming after touring Sri Lanka and all the beautiful locations. It did settle down for the second half of our 4 day stay and gave back a tranquility that the hotel guests deserved.

If you to enjoy super nice unlimited cocktails in the pool this place is for you

Staff is amazing! specially the house keeping staff is doing an exceptional job. Always keeps the room super clean and tight. They always do a nice deco with towels on the bed going above and beyond with their duty. Always keeps the room and toilet spotless.

If I really have to say something negative I'd say the beach and the sea adjacent to the hotel is not the nicest. I know thats not the hotels fault but if anyone looking for a hotel with a nice beach this hotel is not for you. The kids pool/ waterpark is too small for a hotel of this size.

Great and relaxing place.

Very well organised, amazing location and facilities. Food selection was great with lots of choices to satisfy even the fussiest eaters. Great pools with plenty of beds. Children pool and club, games for kids running trough the day. Nice evening entertainment.

Avoid Saturday booking. Swamped with locals too noisy and crowded (for my liking).

Not a bad place but a bit expensive for what it is.

Good selection of alcoholic beverages. Enough sunbeds. Pool is great. Everything is clean and well maintained.

Tax is not included....they should have made it clear. We ended up paying 6000lkr more... Food is below what an average 5-star buffet has to offer. You have to leave the room by 12 and leave by 3PM. Not really a 24 hour inclusive....

Highly reccomend

Staff were very polite and attentive. Hotel was impeccably clean in all areas. Good food and drinks available too. Fun for kids and adults too.

Evening entertainment could be improved. There is always music in the evening but a few more shows would be nice.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner were excellent

Nonsensical outfit restrictions were there while accessing swimming pools for Muslim women with no alternatives available to buy/rent. This was a major buzzkill for us.

Food was nice.

The facilities are of poor standard for a 5 star establishment and you are only allowed to use the steam room and jacuzzi once per day and that too with prior appointment, first time I have faced this in a 5 star establishment. Rooms and bathroom finished to a average standard, not 5 star worthy.

Early July stay

The cleanest hotel I have stayed at, rooms were made up to the highest standard every day. The staff are amazingly kind and will do anything for you. Every time they walk past they will smile and greet you. Fair choice of food at the buffet and caters for vegetarians.

Cocktails aren’t very good. Entertainment was average.

Fun, relaxing and well looked after!

The rooms were spacious, the swim up bar pool, the staff were very friendly and polite with outstanding service.

I know it was quiet but a shame the ala carte restaurants were not open for dinner. We did get a main course option however with the buffet for dinner. The coffee at breakfast was instant, so undrinkable, but the lobby bar had espresso machine we found which was great!

The security where they pull the whole luggage and all my personal belongings are on public display. There should be a separate place where they check bags for security reasons so that we have privacy not for everyone to see what we have inside our bags

Excellent get away

The 3rd Riu I visited in 3 different countries. The Hotel met all the standard Ive visited. The room I booked gave direct view to the ocean which was fantastic. Beautiful compound. The pools are exceptional and situated in an excellent location for the infinity pool. As we took the all inclusive package ( breakfast, lunch, dinner) would say that you can never complain about the buffet. One of the best meals that we had during our stay ( Sri lanka Curries, Seafood etc) Special mention to the Restaurant manager, not sure about his name ( from Belgium) who welcomed us everyday with a big smile

Much better hotels nearby

Some members of staff were very good. Some specific dishes were exceptional.

Too loud. For a supposedly family friendly hotel, the facilities are much more geared towards stag parties rather than families.. If you aren't going to get very drunk (which you will need to be to enjoy the "entertainment") daily then it is not worth the price... Also, the "cocktails" were awful.

It’s a great big hotel all inclusive.

It’s a great big hotel all inclusive. Lovely pools. Kids pool is really cool and it’s amazing that you can leave your kids in a nursery with babysitter free of charge. Small gym. Food was amazing.

There isn’t anything really to see around it or close by. As soon as you walk outside of hotel locals are offering you tours and they are really annoying. They would follow us for long distances, everyone constantly tries to talk to you and sell you something. And if you go out you are asked to donate money all the time. Also while walking on the beach one morning by myself I saw a man in the jungle performing sex on himself it’s was disgusting. We also stayed in Arugam bay (east coast) and kandy (center of Sri Lanka) and didn’t have this problem.

Good for alcoholics.

They only refill the coffee,creamer every other day, which was only enough fr two ppl fr one serve. Sales department staff (head) has no respect for guests. Overall staff not trained properly.
